Moving to College

So,  you’ve finally picked and gotten accepted into the college of your choice.  If you’re like most students and have decided to go away to college, then all you’ve got left to do is pack your stuff in the car and hit the road.  For the purposes of moving to college, most families will rent a car for the road trip.  If you’re moving from your home in Virginia to go to college in South Carolina, then should consider car rental in Virginia prior to your departure.  Most rental car agencies nowadays have deals where you can pick up your rental car in one location and drop it off in another.  It’s something you should consider.roadtrip-70.jpg

What to Pack

If you’re planning on squeezing the entire family plus all the stuff  you’re going to be bringing with you to college into one vehicle, then definitely consider getting a bigger vehicle.  That being said, a lot of colleges will actually send out letters with information on what to pack for your first year away at college.  Some of the usual items include things such as: batteries, a calculator, toiletries, pens/pencils, bed linens, some cleaning supplies, folders (for assignments), notebooks and looseleaf paper.  If you’re planning on moving into an apartment for your first year, depending on whether or not it is furnished, you’ll need to consider some larger items that you’ll want to bring.  However, it is usually advisable to avoid over-loading your vehicle with too much stuff, especially if you plan on staying in a hotel overnight along the way (because you don’t want to tempt criminals).

College can and should be a fun, exiting time in a person’s life no matter what the age.  If you plan ahead, it will be THAT much more enjoyable!
