Most parks also have a limited number of paved and pull-through sites that can accommodate large units. Access to bathrooms, hot showers, water, and electric hook-ups are provided onsite. Some parks also have rustic tent sites with centralized water and no electric hook-ups at a reduced rate when you visit with your South Carolina rental car.

Camping inside: Camper cabins

There are some rather unique campsites that you can visit when you are here with your South Carolina rental car. Carolina camper cabins are unique camping units only found at Lake Hartwell State Park. This is a great alternative for those who like camping, but prefer to sleep under a real roof. These are one-room cabins that sleep four people. They include a set of bunk beds, a double bed, a porch facing Lake Hartwell, heating and air conditioning, and electrical outlets. To add to the camping experience, there is no running water or bathroom in the cabin, but there are public bathrooms and comfort stations. There is a water spigot, fire ring, and grill outside the cabin.

Hike and camp

If you love to hike to remote areas of the state, there is trailside camping available in some areas, mostly in the Upstate region. You’ll need to hike to these spots from your South Carolina rental car, and there is no running water or bathroom facility in these areas. Trailside camping is not only for experienced hikers, and four parks in the state offer pack-in and pack-out campsites for all levels of backpackers and hikers. For example, Pine Point has trailside camping at Table Rock that is perfect for beginners. Its not hard to get here from the access point, and once you are comfortable with the wilderness experience, you can use Table Rock to access more difficult backpacking in the area.

The art of campfire cooking

When you camp with your South Carolina rental car, you will need to learn the art of campfire cooking. Whether its hot dogs and heated beans, or a full-out feast, there are many different ways you can feed yourself when you are camping. All you really need is a wood or charcoal fire ring, aluminum foil, and sticks. There are many different options when you prepare your meals. A rack and some pots or pans can also open up many different cooking opportunities when camping.
