Keyless Car Entry Through Your Phone? Yup.
Though it seems like a slightly dangerous combination, something like having a drive thru ABC store, Sharp, NTT DoCoMo, and Nissan are working on keyless entry for vehicles. The remote: your cell phone.
Sharp and DoCoMo have apparently developed a Mobile phone that also works as an electronic key for Nissan cars. It incorporates Nissan’s “intelligent key system”, which is standard on some existing cars - something like 950,000 of them since 2002. (Source Intomobile.com)
The thing that keeps running through my mind is, do you even have to get off the phone to use the keyless entry feature, or can you just keep running your mouth and press a button that will unlock your door? Better yet, how about a voice command feature that triggers your doors to unlock? That would be pretty cool, huh?
Call me old fashion but combining two of the most annoying things on the face of the earth just sounds like one big nuisance. How many times have you wanted to smack a cell phone out of someones hand, or off their ear if they are thus enabled? A lot? Me too. And how many times have you wanted to disconnect someones horn because they are always locking their car remotely? Whatever the annoyance to those not using the product, I’m sure it will be a big hit. No one cares about being considerate anymore, and any product that is super self-indulgent and head-turning should be a big hit.
