Honda Looking Towards the Indian Market

If you are looking for another sign that India, China, Japan, and basically every other country on the face of the earth are about to eclipse us economically this is for you.  Apparently Honda is looking to set up a new research and development plant in India.  The Times of India writes:

“India is an important market for Honda worldwide. As the market matures, bringing the R&D function into the market becomes very important,” Takeo Fukui, Honda’s global president and CEO, told TOI.

Though Fukui was in India primarily to be a part of the release of the new City sedan, it is quite apparent that his company is looking to take a major piece of the Indian pie.  “In terms of research and development, the first thing which is must to serve any market, is to have a detailed market research on customer preferences, what they like, what they dislike, what kind of cars they would like to drive.” (source The Times of India)  If you want to read a little between the lines of Mr. Fukui’s comment you can see a great deal of ambition for the new market.  Don’t be surprised if in the near future you continue to see a shift away from pandering for American business and towards Indian and Chinese business.
