Can Customer Service Save A Business?
The hot topic right now is the economy. Just recently, many people received their 401k statements and were devastated when they saw how much of their savings had been lost. That being said, what are businesses to do during such rough economic times? It’s gotten to the point where I avoid listening to the news anymore because there doesn’t seem to be anything remotely positive about what is happening in the United States or abroad.
Customer Service With a Smile
In the not-so-distant past, it seemed that customer service went a long way. It would sometimes function as the deciding factor between whether or not you would choose one business over the other. But does this same logic still apply today? If, for instance, there are less people renting cars around the United States, will customer service really make that much of a difference? I’m not so sure.
On the one hand, customer service is still extremely important. Economic optimists would say that now is the time to really step things up to the next level and take advantage of our current situation. After all, we can’t stay in an economic depression forever. Therefore, the companies that will benefit hugely will be those who work the hardest now. This kinda’ makes sense. When things turn around, I will be more likely to stick with the company that was the most courteous and efficient versus the one that was the cheapest.t

I couldn’t agree with you more! Businesses absolutely must work harder during these difficult times, and offering exceptional customer service doesn’t have to cost a company a lot of money. Everyone is stressed right now, including employees dealing with customers. But customers don’t want to hear employees complaining. They want customer service representatives to make them feel good about spending their money with the company. Customer service representatives who are well-trained and treat customers exceptionally well will help create loyalty for a company and positively impact the company’s bottom line. Now is the time for managers to work with their employees to help them improve their skills. Often, it’s just little things that make the difference. I’ve got lots of choices where to spend my money. When things are tough, like they are now, I’m even more inclined to deal with people who treat me well and avoid those who don’t.
